I arrived at Viva Party 2016, Palatul Stirbey, beautiful, stylish. Two days earlier I got a call from a friend telling me about the event. I said I’m going, then, like any woman, I looked at the dress code: cocktail party.
I still don’t understand why people dress super, extra, and way too florid at the modern events. I was standing and looking around and I thought that maybe I’m the one that doesn’t understand and doesn’t know. After all, I’m no expert in fashion.
However, I ask myself why we don’t use the dress code as guidance, it’s a sign of good manners. It’s practically the respect shown for the guest and there’s no need to become too creative. Put your mark with finesse. If I don’t know something, I search for it, I do some research, I read someone who is ok and I listen to the older people. The archetype for the cocktail attire is the short and a little flirty dress. The most appreciated materials are silk and satin.
Do you know that these kind of parties appeared in the 1920s when the wealthy families would invite their friends to their homes to socialize? Their purpose was to drink different beverages and to eat fancy snacks whilst chatting and getting to know each other better.
I’ve found everywhere the same advices in regards to the cocktail attire – in needs to be formal in comparison with the casual style, but a little less formal than a night dress. Here are a few options:
1. Mini dress: You can’t go wrong with it. Be it white, black, colored or with print, a short dress will look good combined with a clutch and a beautiful piece of jewelry.
2. Knee length dresses or midi dresses: You can cut on the accessories as much as you can, pearls would look very good or delicate jewelry. This simple style and with a distinct sensuality is very actual. Knee length dresses are sexy precisely because they don’t reveal too much. You can add a pair of shoes with a smaller heel or even some glossy ballerina flats.
3. The suit: it’s a little more eccentric for a cocktail party, but popular. At a party such as Viva, which we know that it’s more formal, I would wear it. The suit on a woman looks sensational. It inspires power, attitude, sexuality, simplicity. Wore with the right shit made of silk, satin, or a masculine one, you can’t fail.
I opted for a dress that I am very fond of, made by Alexandra Ivan, full of macarons and very joyful. It perfectly fit with pink metallic shoes from Musette.
