I first met Amna during one of Marius Moga’s songs launch event. She caught my attention back then because she did nothing but walk around the room singing.
She only did that for herself, to feel music. She did that because she loved music that much. She enjoyed it by herself. I then thought to myself: I really DO have to get to know her better. And I did. She is very cool indeed.
I liked her more and more as I got to know her better and now she has a special place in my Awesome People Section. She is sincere, smart, has a bohemian style and she loves her little boy to the moon and back. She is one of those people whose face smiles even when they are grave, serious, focused on something in particular. We went out for a coffee and had such a great time that, afterwards, I had to thank the universe I know such amazing people! Let’s enter Amna’s world and see what’s happening in there, in her mirror.
1. How did you start singing? What drove you towards music?
I simply was born with this amazing blessing. And I am grateful for that each and every single day.
2. Is this what you did all your life or did you, I don’t know, major in something else?
Apart from the lessons and classes I took at George Enescu High-school, I also studied at the George Cosbuc Bilingual High-school, I graduated from The International Economic Relations and I finalized a Master’s Program in Negotiations and Business.
3. Have you ever sacrificed anything that you regret a lot? Something you would never ever do again?
I made great sacrifices for music, especially financially, but I would make them all over again, if need be! The biggest sacrifice of all was the one in 2011. I had raised money really hard, with great difficulties, to be able to pay for my car installments (I had a day job and, at night, I played in bars and restaurants). One day, I decided to go to this studio which, at the moment, was thought to be the greatest of all. I listened to many, many songs, but only this one got to me: Tell me why. I thought no further and paid for it with that money, the one I had raised for the car. I really had the chance to go for the winning ticket. It came out to be no.1 everywhere in the world. It was my very true debut, the stepping stone of my career, the song which made me get international gigs.
4. What does being number one feel like? Is it worth the effort or is it more of a personal achievement?
Honestly, I cannot answer this question. There are too many things to do, I have to do a lot of things to remain on top. It really is very hard, reaching the top. However, it is even harder to stay there. To be worth it all the while. I, myself, try to remain focused and to keep my mind clear.
5. How does being on stage feel like?
The stage is my very first love. It is the place where everything else stops. However, the stage would be nothing without the people. I love people!
6. Is there anyone you love the most in this world?
David, my little son. He gave my life another meaning. He is my happy place.
7. What would you like to change about people? What would you change at yourself? Would you change anything?
I would not change anything in the people surrounding me. As for me, I would like to make the time to go out more.
8. Is there a special place in which you go when you need to relax? Where you run away from it all?
Yes. I listen to Tina Turner while driving. Try it.
9. Your very first thought in the morning and the last one at night
How will I make it possible today to both spend time with David and attend the events and, at night, I thank God I made it.
10. What is happiness for you?
Everything I do and everything I built. My child, my husband and my career.
11. Is there a special thing about being a mom? Something you cherish particularly?
I could not choose a specific moment. David is amazing and the time I spend with him is wow!!
12. Is there any garment you like in particular?
Nope
13. Do you like social events?
No. they are horrible.
14. Have you ever taken a risk in your career? Anything careless?
Yes, the first years. I did make some risky choices.
15. A motto you believe in. Something that takes you to Zen.
Work like you don’t need the money. Dance like no one is watching. And love like you’ve never been hurt, M. Twain
I was just telling you I adore hanging out with my dear friends in great cafés. Well now, it was just about time Marian Vasilescu would join us, right? We together enjoyed a nice cup of coffee, talked for a while and laughed out loud. After a little too many minutes, we all realized the date had lasted a little too much. We packed our things and returned to our lives at once.
So, until next time… #stayperfectlyimperfect!
